Comics for a Cause event, new artwork for auction

Continuing from my previous blog post:

In addition to the 2 old pieces of original artwork I have donated to the auction,
I have created a brand new piece just for this auction/event.
You can start bidding early for the items by going to @bz.comics on Instagram.
There are all kinds of comics, artwork, posters, skateboard decks, etc. in the auction, donated by comic book shops and creators.
The bidding will continue at the event 4pm-9pm, Sat. June 12, 2021.

Comics For A Cause event at Alex's Bar 6-12-21

 Alex's Bar in Long Beach, CA is having a comic book event June 12, 2021 to benefit Save Our Stages, a charity for helping local music venues who have been effected by being forced to limit operations or close entirely by the government due to Covid-19 regulations.

I am donating 2 pieces of original artwork for the auction.
They are hand drawn and lettered posters/flyers for local punk rock shows from 1995.
I was hired to draw these by Alex Hernandez himself, back when he was a bouncer making the transition into booking bands at The Clipper (aka The Juke Joint) in Long Beach, CA and The Fabulous Foothill in Signal Hill, CA.

 I did some assistant work for comic book creator Paul Sharar on his upcoming releases.

2 new, 1 re-issue, 1 reprint.

Paul created, wrote and drew these. His brother Mark co-scripted Manning Town, and Matt edited Hot Dog Chronicles). See captions for my contributions.

Crate Digger merch

 Thank you Crate Digger for sending me the merch!

I drew this logo for the band Crate Digger a while back.

They wanted a death metal style logo, and this is what I came up with.
They are not a death metal band, so I figured this design would appear outside of that context.
In other words, it would not be competing with other death metal band logos for the Most Illegible prize.
So, death metal style, but slightly legible.

Alphabet of Murder (old school project)

The Alphabet of Murder
An old college assignment I did(n't finish).
Come up with a theme, and ~4x4" illustrations for each letter with a limited color palette.
I dug these out and realized I still like a lot of these, so I'm sharing them here.
This was from a time when I could only save low res versions of these on floppy disks.
These were mounted on a board, with all the originals in an envelope on the back, which got wet somehow over the years and mildewed.
A true restoration would not be worth the time and effort, but here are some snapshots of the surviving low res printouts. (list at very bottom of post)

 I designed this long sleeve shirt for Alex's Bar in it's early days.
It is now back in print, as well as some of their other classic designs.
Alex's is a great live music venue in Long Beach, CA.
They have been hit hard by the covid shitdowns.
