Stu-stu-studio

BlowUpBlow recorded a song at The Compound in Signal Hill last Saturday. Went pretty well. A big part of that is because I had Tim Bender there. He provided drums, tuned them up and kept them sounding good (since I'm horrible at it) and emitted infectuous positive energy the whole time. I hate recording in the studio, but this was probably the funnest time I've had to date.

My technical geekery will not be posted on either of the BlowUpBlow sites, but I'm free to put whatever the f**k I want here:

I used some of Tim's DW drums (ca. early '90's):
12"x10" & 16"x16" toms
22" x 18" bass drum
Also, his 18" Paiste 2002 Rock Crash

The rest was my stuff:
14"x5" Ludwig Classic steel snare
18" Paiste Rude China
13" (secret recipe) cymbal stack
6" LP ice bell
20" Paiste Signature Dry Ride
13" Paiste 2002 hihat (top) / 13" Zildjian Quick Beat hihat (bottom)
Yamaha strap drive single bass drum pedal

No double-kick pedal, no click track, no editing (yet...?)
1 false start, 4 takes. Some warts to give it "humanity."

  1. The resulting recording can be heard here:

The song It's Time was recorded and quickly/roughly mixed. The band broke up before it could be completed and released properly.
