Chromasomas #1

Paul and Mark Sharar's new comic book Chromasomas is off to the printers.
If all goes well, it will be available at the San Diego Comic-Con.
If all goes even better, I believe there are 11 more issues in various stages of completion.
I did the lettering, cover coloring and some graphic pre-production work (some simple graphic design; cleaning up, resizing and undistorting of scanned artwork; multi-page document layout for press.)

Manning Town by Paul Sharar, limited edition

 I did the interior, comic book lettering for Manning Town by Paul Sharar.
It will be a graphic novel ("a high drama in four parts"), black and white with full color, glossy cover.

Manning Town update

I mentioned earlier that I was lettering Paul Sharar's graphic novel Manning Town.

The rough draft has been honed to the point that we've deemed it acceptable to send to an interested prospective publisher. And sent it we have. Which brings us to a phase of pre-production known as The Hoistingtons, if that makes any sense to you.

Hopefully a publishing deal can be struck. We shall see.

I'd like to thank Paul for inviting me to work on the book and Mark for teaching me a thing or two about comic lettering and comics in general.

Comic lettering project

I am currently working on lettering Paul Sharar's upcoming graphic novel, Manning Town.

Although I have hand-lettered a comic in the past, this will be my first comic book digital lettering project. Also, this will be Mark Sharar's comic book scripting debut. Wish us both luck.

My digital lettering duties are inevitably augmented by various pre-production, pre-press concerns, from artwork adjustments, corrections, graphic design, layout, pulling my hair out, etc.

Paul has drawn and inked the entire 4-part book. He and his brother Mark have collaborated on changing and finalizing the plot, and Mark has written the final script.

Publisher and release date is as of yet undetermined...

Nice to be involved in comics somehow, and on some kind of creative team again.

Stuff in the works

Just a few things have come up:

1) A piece of artwork I did a few years ago may finally see the virtual light of day.

I did a piece for Mars Volta keyboardist Ikey Owens' solo project Free Moral Agents (MySpace, Facebook).

Rumor has it that the title (and therefore accompanying artwork) caused a bit of controversy resulting in the project being shelved. But, now it's going to be used for digital/online-release-only album art, if all goes well.

I'll post links on where to get it as soon as it's available.

2) I'm going to play drums with Lake Dolores on Sat. April 25 at Alex's Bar. It's been a long time since I played a show, especially with them. It should be fun.

I will ask (since I'm only what one would call a touring member) repeatedly when we are going to practice and what songs we are going to play. Knowing this band, these questions will probably not be addressed until the night of the show. Hopefully this time will break the stereotype! :-)

We're honored to be opening for (what I consider to be an all-star metal band) Project Shepherd.

3) I may be doing some lettering and production work for Paul Sharar's forthcoming graphic novel opus Manning Town. Although my work on this will be subservient, I am a big believer in Paul's talents, and so it's an honor.
